THE LINK BETWEEN RECREATION AND BETTER MENTAL, PHYSICAL & SOCIETAL HEALTH
Aruban communities today are confronted with a number of serious health and social issues - obesity, diabetes, alcoholism, depression, teenage pregnancy and divorces, to name a few. The trend towards a sedentary lifestyle is recognized as a major contributor towards many of Aruba’s health and social issues.
With the increased awareness of these issues, FRERA, along with recreation professionals, policy makers, health care providers, public safety officers and educators need to better understand the benefits that recreation facilities and programs may play in addressing these concerns.
FRERA, along with healthcare and recreation professionals, realizes that physical activities must be made fun, safe and accessible to all Aruban families, in order to address these alarming health trends.
FRERA is committed to making recreation opportunities and programs more available, while actively promoting the link between recreation and better mental, physical and societal health.
FRERA is committed to working with its partners, all professionals and agencies, in reviewing current research, conducting new research, providing real answers and solutions to the concerns and issues (mentioned at the top), as well as providing the necessary knowledge, opportunities, tools and strategies for creating smarter, healthier and happier Aruban communities.
